Roughly half the cells you carry are not yours. Your gut holds hundreds of bacterial species, and which ones you have is shaped largely by what you eat.

MY GUUT sequences them from a single stool sample and tells you what is actually there.

The laboratory extracts bacterial DNA from your sample and sequences it, identifying the species present and how common each one is. Everything in the report comes from that one measurement: the composition of your gut bacteria on the day you collected.

The headline figures. Microbial diversity, expressed as a Shannon index, combining how many species you carry with how evenly they are spread. A dysbiosis index summarising whether the balance leans toward beneficial or less helpful organisms. And your enterotype — whether your gut is dominated by Bacteroides, Prevotella or Ruminococcus, which tends to track long-term diet rather than last week's meals.

Then the detail. A Firmicutes to Bacteroidota ratio, and named lists of probiotic, butyrate-producing, mucin-producing and sulphate-reducing species, each with your figure against a reference range. Over 70 genera in total.

The report ends with diet suggestions drawn from your own result rather than from generic advice — which fibres tend to feed the organisms you are low in, and what a realistic timescale for change looks like.

What's in the box

  • Collection kit with stabilising tube and instructions

  • Free return postage

  • 28-page report as a password-protected document

  • Diet suggestions based on your own result

Is this right for me?

Worth doing if

  • You are curious about what is actually in your gut and want measurement rather than guesswork

  • You are making a deliberate change to how you eat and want a baseline

  • You are generally well

Wait, or do something else first, if

  • You have taken antibiotics in the last few weeks — the result will reflect the antibiotics, not you. Wait at least a month.

  • You have had a stomach bug recently

  • You have bleeding, unexplained weight loss, a persistent change in bowel habit, or symptoms that wake you at night. See a GP. These need proper assessment, not a microbiome report.

What this test is, and what it is not

MY GUUT is a wellness test. It is not a medical test and it does not diagnose disease.

It cannot tell you whether you have IBS, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease or any other condition, and it cannot rule any of them out. Detecting an organism does not mean that organism is causing you a problem.

Where the report says a “tendency” toward something, that is a statistical association across populations, not a finding about you. It is not a prediction and it is not a diagnosis.

Your microbiome shifts with what you eat, so the result is a snapshot of one day rather than a fixed characteristic.

Questions

Is this a medical test?

No. It is a wellness test. It does not diagnose disease, and the laboratory states plainly that detecting an organism does not imply the presence of a condition.

My report says “high tendency” to something. Should I worry?

No. That language describes an association seen across groups of people, not a finding about you. If you have symptoms, see a GP — the report is not the right tool for answering that question.

Can it tell me if I have IBS or coeliac disease?

No. Neither is diagnosed from a microbiome profile. Both need a GP and, for coeliac disease, specific blood tests taken while you are still eating gluten.

How soon would a change in diet show up?

Some shifts appear within days, but a meaningful change in diversity or enterotype takes months of consistent eating. Retesting after a few weeks usually tells you very little.

When should I post my sample?

Monday to Thursday, so it is not sitting in the postal system over a weekend.
